Game Environment: Wooden Tower
An interior scene I made for my Game Art 2 class in 10 weeks. This is intended to be one of the boss rooms for a game I have been working on personally, I will try to release a beta version of the game as soon as possible! The environment itself is heavily inspired by the Ning Xian Wood Tower in Shanxi, China, but I have also added elements of Oriental Mythology to add some story into the environment. I have also created a custom script for this project in order to quickly place all the books in order to not only automate the process of placing these books but also greatly reduce the number of render calls they make to the engine.
Front Gate: The design of this gate had gone through many changes, I had originally planned for it to be much smaller and had altares on each side of it. However, after building multiple designs, the large, tall gate is what I eventually decided upon.
Opening Shot: Most likely the first view the player will have entering the tower.
Lighting Study: Very frequently I would turn on the Detailed Lighting mode to check the lighting situation of my environment. I honestly debated for a long time whether or not to even introduce local colors to the assets at all.
The Hole: A lot of assets were originally designed to make a convening opening where the tower had broken off. I scrapped that idea entirely after building the block out and realizing how far players will be viewing it from.
The wooden altar in front of the maple tree.
Broken Fence where a bookshelf had fallen off.
Very Early Layout of the tower
Concept made in SAI to understand the structure and lighting angle
Many incomplete prototypes were made along the way in order to give myself a good understanding of how the environment will look and feel.
First complete prototype tower built to test scale and composition
All the assets were made in order to construct all of the early prototypes.
